The Meridian Stadium
This 60,000 seat unrealized landmark building performs the functions of a football and rugby stadium, as well as a covered arena for concerts and exhibitions. The Meridian fulfills the desire for a striking waterfront icon that could create a charged sporting venue for any club.
The ETFE inflatable skin responds to the waterfront location, elevating its mass into a floating mirage. The lightweight insulated skin has both reflective and transparent qualities which are controlled by a moveable interlayer that responds to the changing light conditions. The lightweight construction allows the building to cantilever dramatically and create a canopy to shade spectators below.
