Doncaster Community Stadium
AndArchitects were commissioned to create a concept design and masterplan for Doncaster Community Stadium. The development, situated on a Greenfield site adjacent to a large lake, included a 20,000 seat stadium for Doncaster Rovers FC, Doncaster Dragons RFC and Doncaster Belles FC. In addition to the associated hospitality facilities the stadium incorporated 2,000m2 of educational facilities as well as a 400m2 community martial arts centre.
Aesthetically, the location of the stadium provides an opportunity to open up a section of the building so that the lake can be used as a visual backdrop for concerts and events.
This 20,000 seat timber clad façade has a number of sustainable measures incorporated into the design. Ancillary facilities are heated and cooled by means of a heat pump which uses the lake as a heat source. The external covered corners are designed to provide meeting areas served by refreshment kiosks, with accessible from inside and outside the ground.
