Hotel opts for modules – Off site construction will cut losses during building work

A £6m extension to the Rivenhall Hotel near Chelsford Essex will use off-site construction techniques to limit revenue losses during building work by cutting construction time. Starting in early 2009, lightweight steel-frame structures will be assembled off-site by Spaceover for the four floor extension, which is designed by AndArchitects and will have 100 bedrooms and a rooftop restaurant. AndArchitects founder Manuel Nogueira says that although the room modules will be a standard size and the same window modules will be used for the facades, ‘we have randomly allocated them so that the elevation is not compromised by the modular approach’ www.andarchitects.co.uk
