AndArchitects designed the scheme and administered the contract on site for this new build house in Gloucestershire. The brief was to create a weekend family retreat from London. The house overlooks a lake and is a simple response to the views and south east orientation of the plot.

The challenge was to adapt an existing planning consent to create a new build house in the Cotswold countryside.  While the cladding materials and massing on this rural site were predetermined, the elevations, internal layout and glazing type were redesigned. The design of the house was tailored to the requirements of the family spatially and AndArchitects also designed all of the interiors including all joinery, bathrooms, bespoke kitchen, all finishes including timber, stone, fabrics and carpet. In addition AndArchitects assisted with furniture selection and furniture layouts and as a result the house is a truly resolved design both internally and externally.

The building is extremely energy efficient with insulation levels in excess of those required for Building Control and fenestration based on passive house design principles.

AndArchitects design uses a limited pallet of natural materials internally in response to the natural surroundings. The clean lines of the interior are designed to focus attention on the natural views and setting.

The perspective created by the strong architecture draws the eye to the lake and trees beyond. This gives glimpses of water throughout the house.
