Research & Partnerships

  • Research

AndArchitects are specialist consultants, advising on the legacy and reuse of temporary venues for global events. They worked on four temporary sponsorship pavilions for the London 2012 Olympics and the temporary Handball Arena for the Rio 2016 Olympics. The legacy strategies for permanent venues are generally well considered, but temporary venues too often have well-intentioned legacy strategies that are never realised. AndArchitects are committed to challenging this.

AndArchitects consult with NGOs, events organisers, end users and designers to research and improve legacy strategies for temporary venues and ensure they are fully delivered after the event is finished. In 2018 AndArchitects published research into this with ‘Temporary & Events Architecture, Brief Strategies and Legacy’.

  • Partnerships

AndArchitects are also part of the Ryder Alliance, an entrepreneurial international alliance employing pioneering research and technologies to redefine architectural practice. This gives AndArchitects access to global partnerships, knowledge and expertise, including Ryder’s Net Zero and Future X climate initiatives and associated research.

  • Professional Advisory Role

In 2019, Manuel was invited to attend an International Olympic Committee (IOC) think tank on “Sustainable innovation in sport infrastructure” focusing on temporary infrastructure and renovation/upgrading and/or re-purposing and/or temporary adaptation of permanent facilities.

Along this line of research, AndArchitects have worked extensively with the UN Global Alliance for Urban Crises, a multi-disciplinary, collaborative community of practice working to prevent, prepare for and effectively respond to humanitarian crises in urban settings.

AndArchitects have led research into how buildings, pavilions and other temporary venues can be repurposed in the response to humanitarian crises across the world.

AndArchitects have also been part of Design Review Panels, and they are RIBA Client Advisor and RIBA Chartered Practice.

  • Sustainability

AndArchitects are committed to sustainability not only in their approach to design, build and operate but also to join forces with other organisations to tackle the climate change crisis.

AndArchitects have recently signed the UK Architects Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency committment.

AndArchitects support LETI ‘London Energy Transformation Initiative’ whose goal is to achieve a zero carbon future from a built environment perspective.
