London 2012 Basketball Training Venue

London, UK

The temporary basketball training venue was built to be used during the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. The site formerly comprised public open space and it has been returned to this usage following completion of the games. AndArchitects developed an innovative strawboard demountable system for all internal walls including wet area partitions that would be recycled and reused. To allow for a fully sustainable solution the strawboard was left unpainted to reduce build time and embodied carbon.

The development comprised of three temporary structures. One structure included Ancillary Services such as staff and athlete’s facilities, and the other two each included a basketball court. There were also parking areas, storage and plant, an access road into and out of the facility and an external boundary fence.
